THE DEFICIENCIES OR INADEQUACIES OF THE LAW 1

“For when we were in the flesh, the sinful passions which were aroused by the law were at work in our members to bear fruit to death.”
Romans 7:5 (NKJV)
One of the deficiencies or inadequacies of the law is, it arouses sinful passions. When law has not been made known, the passion for Sin might not be aroused, but at the emergence of the law, the hidden passion for Sin begins to surface (Romans 7:5). The law was meant to create awareness, call man's attention to know that he needed a help or a Saviour to be reconciled to God (Romans 7:7; Galatians 3:23,24).

Before any law is enacted, the desire for the sinful act might not be strong, but the moment the law is enacted, the passion for the Evil act would be aroused in Man (Romans 7:9-11). The law was not bad perse, but it arouses the sinful passion lurking in the flesh (Romans 7:8,12). The flesh might not demand or be passionate about a thing when there was no law that restricted or forbidden it, but the moment the law that forbids it is promulgated, the flesh would swing into action, it would be desiring for the thing that is forbidden by the law (Romans 7:8). So, the law is not the problem, but the sinful passion lurking in the flesh is (Romans 7:16,17).

If there was no law against stealing; stealing or thieving might not cross your mind, but the moment a law that forbids stealing or thieving is enacted, the temptation to steal would begin to come up or emerge in the flesh. The passion to steal or thieve had already been in the flesh, but it was not known until the law was made (Romans 4:15; 7:7).
The law brought out the hidden evil passions in the flesh (Romans 7:7,9,10).
